Controlling Line Tension in Thruster Assisted Mooring Systems

چکیده

| This paper addresses the potential for energy reduction obtained by using dynamic line tension-ing in thruster assisted position mooring systems. Traditionally , mooring systems have been designed in such a way that thruster assistance has not been neccessary under normal environmental conditions. However, as oil production moves into deeper waters, such over-dimensioned mooring systems are no longer feasible. Thus, new "hybrid" solutions must be developed, in which increased thruster action compensates for fewer, and lighter, anchor lines. In this paper, controlling the line tensions dynamically is suggested as an additional means of station keeping, and a control law is derived based on passivity. A model consisting of a rigid-body submodel for the vessel, and a nite element submodel for the mooring system is presented and used for simulations. The simulations show the performance of the proposed control system.

Investigating the Behavior of the Mooring System for a Conceptual Design of a Spar Floating Wind Turbine under Survival Conditions

In this paper, selecting of an appropriate mooring system for spar platform of a wind turbine consisting of chain–cable–chain is investigated based on a meta-heuristic method. The purpose is to investigate the hydrodynamic behavior of the structure and the mooring system in a normal and damaged conditions. ANSYS-AQWA software is applied to hydrodynamics analysis and the numerical results were f...

Evaluating the Validity of Quasi-Static Analysis for Prediction of Vessel Mooring Line Forces

Quasi-Static analysis of moored vessels is vastly used for engineering designs, as a substitute to the numerical simulation of dynamic mooring analysis. Yet, the level of validity of the results of quasi-static analysis is a matter of discussion. In the present study, the validation of the assumptions behind the quasi-static analysis of mooring vessels is examined with application of a dynamic ...

Stability Assessment of the Flexible System using Redundancy

In this study, dynamic behavior of a mooring line in a floating system is analyzed by probability approaches. In dynamics, most researches have shown the system model and environments by mathematical expression. We called this process as the forward dynamics. However, there is a limit to define the exact environments because of uncertainty. To consider uncertainty, we introduce the redundancy i...

کاربرد الگوریتم ژنتیک ساده در طراحی بهینه الگوی مهاربندی

In this paper, the procedure of developing an unconstrained Genetic Algorithm code to solve mooring pattern optimization problems for floating structures is described. How to spread mooring lines around the offshore structures and tension level of these lines are the factors that have direct effect on response or offset of floating units which experience environmental conditions such as waves, ...

Nonlinear Dynamic Analysis of Multi-component Mooring Lines Incorporating Line-seabed Interaction

Abstract: In this study, a deterministic approach for the dynamic analysis of a multi-component mooring line was formulated. The floater motion responses were considered as the mooring line upper boundary conditions while the anchored point was considered as pinned. Lumped parameter approach was adopted for the mooring line modelling. The forces considered were the submerged weights of mooring/...
